Discribe the essential parts of planning.  How does the existence of resource constraints affect the need for planning?

The leaders should identify positions that explicitly state the organization’s ethical, entrepreneurial, and philosophical perspectives.  Another aspect of planning would be the company values, vision, and mission statement with Strategic Planning to follow.

What are the three common layers of planning?  How do they differ?

Strategic Plan identifies specific roles, realistic and measurable, acheivable and time-bound objectives.  Strategic planning involves specific duties.

Tactical Plan is short term and identifies incremental objectives or transitions of these specific duties implied by Strategic Planning.  Tactical planning task are specific to time and date.

Operational Plans coordinates activites that span laterally across departments with boundries, comm requirements, meetings summaries and reports associated with tasks.  An example of operational planning supporting stragegic and tactical planning would be SETA training.

Who are the stakeholders? Why is it important to consider their views when planning?

Directors, Managers, Employees, Shareholders, Competitors etc. When you have powerful stakeholders supporting you, you have access to useful resources as well. This way, the likelihood of your project hitting higher success levels is higher.
